Secret Masters of Magic

On the web page describing the new Bob Fitch Topit
Workshop,
I label Bob an S.M.O.M. (Secret Master of Magic).

I think this term is appropriate for movers and
shakers, designers, directors, and coaches who may or may
not necessarily be in the spotlight themselves.
Influencers.

I think of folks like Jim Steinmeyer, Mike Caveney,
Phil Goldstein, Richard Kaufman and a few others as fitting
into this category of SMOMs.

Of course, I'm only counting magicians currently
living as SMOMs. Deceased names we all know and love should
be called something else (How about "former SMOMS"?)

Who's your nominee for a SMOM? Let me know on my survey
at:
http://charliesmagic.com/smom.htm
I'll publish the results and we'll see how your pick
does!

At a Proctologist's door: "To expedite your visit please

Magic In The Hinterlands

This week features not one but two books on magicians who
toured rural markets for their entire careers.

Eugene Laurant, until his retirment in the 1940s,
toured extensively first on the Chataqua circuits and then
town to town in rural America. You'll learn all about the
roots of Lyceum, Vaudeville and the "Opry Houses" as well as
about the grit it took to be on the road in the early part
of the twentieth century. Laurant was also a pioneer of the
"school assembly" show in the depression.

John Henry Anderson lived a colorful life
entertaining all over Scotland in the 1840s to 1870s. A
genius and master showman as well, "The Wizard of the North"
the book written by his grand-niece, is a sheer pleasure to
read!

Mentalism 101

A powerful combination of six different principles
of Magic and Mentalism. Each one is baffling in its own
right, but together they create an unfathomable mystery.

"Mentalism 101 is an excellent mental effect. This
is a welcome departure from the truncated, one page
instructions that usually accompany dealer items. I
compliment you on the very thorough and professional manner
that you employed in preparing and packaging Mentalism 101."
- Larry Becker

Your Mentalism 101 set contains:
- A Bicycle Brand Koran Five Star Miracle Forcing Deck
(101 Deck) with marked force cards.
- A "Loomis" style double envelope and instructions for
making more.
- 2 Double Face Cards which match the force cards in the
101 Deck.
- Complete printed instructions on how to perform two
versions of this mind boggling routine.
- A 35 minute instruction DVD on which Dennis Loomis
performs and teaches the routine, and teaches you how to
make the necessary double envelope.
- Instructions for another strong prediction routine
utilizing double envelopes. (originally marketed as the
"Triple Prophecy Box.")

Pop Secret

An unopened, sealed box of microwave popcorn is
given to a spectator in the audience. They open the box and
remove one of the three bags, tossing it to the performer.

The performer unwraps the bag, holds it between the
fingers and thumbs of each hand, and proceeds to pop the bag
of popcorn in his hands! A bowl is placed on a table, the
bag opened, and the popcorn dumped into the bowl. The bowl
of popcorn can then be handed out to a spectator in the
audience.

This is the killer opener you've been waiting for. It just
makes sense. Entertainment and snacks go hand-in-hand.
